The Syria Recovery Trust Fund has announced its approval to start the third phase of a project aimed at supporting wheat production in northern rural Aleppo. The goal of this phase is to increase wheat production and improve livelihoods and food security in the region by providing various agricultural inputs and wheat seeds, with a focus on climate-smart agricultural practices.
The new project has a budget of approximately 2.76 million euros and is expected to directly benefit 2,000 farmers and indirectly benefit 10,000 of their family members over 18 months, which includes six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation.
The Trust Fund also unveiled a new health intervention to continue comprehensive support for the two dialysis units in Deir Ezzor province. In its first and second phases, the project facilitated 9,186 dialysis sessions for 123 patients with end-stage renal disease, including 40% women and 7% internally displaced persons. This intervention indirectly benefited 605 family members and served a population of 229,140 individuals.
The new health intervention, which is the third phase of the project, will address existing gaps and ensure that the two dialysis units are fully supported to provide high-quality health services. This will involve providing medical staff, covering operating costs, and supplying medicines, consumables, and dialysis kits. The budget for this new health intervention is approximately 0.55 million euros, and it is expected to provide 6,240 dialysis sessions over a 10-month period.
With these new initiatives, the Trust Fund now has a total of 71 projects with a cumulative budget of approximately 269.07 million euros. The Fund’s Director, Hani Khabbaz, expressed satisfaction with the approval of these new phases, emphasizing that they bolster ongoing efforts to support the health and agriculture sectors in northeastern Syria and northern rural Aleppo.
Khabbaz reiterated the Fund’s commitment to providing health services, supporting agriculture and food security, and promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, highlighting their dedication to enhancing the resilience and well-being of the communities they serve.
