The Syrian Coalition’s political committee earlier today met with a delegation from the Netherland in Istanbul to discuss the latest political, field and humanitarian developments in Syria. The delegation included the Netherlands’ special envoy to Syria Nicholas Van Damme, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs Birgitta Tazelaar, and the Netherlands’ representative to the Friends of the Syrian people group Stephen van Roche.
The two sides discussed prospects of the ongoing Geneva talks, while the political committee members highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions endured by the Syrian civilian trapped in the besieged areas, especially in Homs and Deir Ezzor.
The meeting discussed the vital role the Netherlands and Europe play in the Syrian issue, calling on Europe and the international community to play a more positive role in Syria in order to bring about a political transition that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
