The Syrian Coalition stressed that “it is not acceptable that the process of securing the delivery and dismantling of chemical weapons should come at the expense of the pursuit of justice and bringing the perpetrators who used these weapons to a fair trial.” The Coalition called for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to “stay away from political pressure and not to succumb to the pressures of any party whatsoever.” The Coalition warned of Assad’s ambiguity and devious maneuvers and say not to leave “a chance for the Assad regime that would allow them to hide some of the weapons and materials and use them again against civilians.” President of the Syrian National Council, George Sabra, pointed out in an earlier statement that “demanding that the regime be held accountable for their crimes is one of the rights of the Syrian people that the Coalition does not have the authority to give up.” Sabra scoffed at what the UN considers a resolution to the problem which he described as “the arrest of chemical weapons” stressing that “the problem is not with weapons, but those who use them.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
