The Syrian Coalition called on the international community to work to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people by all means, especially the internally displaced and refugees in neighboring countries, stressing the need for the international community to comprehensively engages with the scene in Syria, and to step up efforts aimed at easing the plight of Syrian people and supporting their justified struggle for freedom, dignity, and a better future. The call came in a statement issued by the Media Office of the Syrian Coalition yesterday on the occasion of “International Migrants Day.” The Syrian Coalition pointed out that “the number of internally displaced people in Syria exceeds 7 million. The United Nations expects the number of Syrian refugees in neighboring counties to reach up to 4.1 million at the end of 2014. Such figures highlight the scale of the suffering of the Syrian people, and they surely mean one thing; there is no more a safe place in Syria. Backed by its regional and international allies, the Assad regime sought to change the nature of the conflict in Syria by adopting a state policy of displacing people. After more than 1000 days since the start of the Syrian Revolution, the Assad regime managed to succeed in creating the worst humanitarian crisis in a century.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
