The Syrian Coalition said that civilians in Syria are being subjected to war crimes and genocide as a result of the relentless bombing campaign by the Assad regime and Russian forces on the countryside Idlib and Hama. It stressed that these crimes have not yet been met with the appropriate response from the international community.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Coalition said that Syrian civilians need urgent international protection. The world must not remain silent as the Syrian people, especially women and children, are being killed and displaced en masse.
“It is imperative that the sponsors of the political solution and guarantors of the Idlib Agreement shoulder their responsibilities with regards to the serious escalation risking the creation of new major humanitarian disasters affecting the Syrian people,” the Coalition added.
The serious military escalation by the Assad regime forces, backed by the Russian air force and the Iranian militias against towns and villages in the Hama and Idlib provinces have so far resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians and the injury of hundreds more in the past few days.
The fierce bombardment has so far destroyed four hospitals and transformed several towns and villages into devastated areas. The bombings are also targeting IDP camps and main roads in the region.
“This blatant aggression has forced well over 300,000 people out of their homes and did not stop even on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan. In addition to violating all agreements and resolutions, the onslaught is a new attempt to sabotage the political solution and impose a repressive, terrorist military solution on the Syrian people.”
The Coalition warned of the consequences of the ongoing military escalation as it reminded the UN Security Council of its responsibilities towards what is happening and the plans of the regime and its allies who are aiding it in its aggression. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
