Syrian Coalition: China Should Play a Strong Role to Stop the Regime’s Crimes

The delegation of the Syrian Coalition headed by President Jarba, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and with his deputy Zhang Ming during the first official visit to China. Jarba stressed during the meetings that China has a responsibility to play a stronger role in stopping the crimes of the Assad regime, and to ratchet up pressure on the Assad regime to agree to a political solution. Badr Jamous, Secretary General of the Syrian Coalition, said that “we raised the issue of the besieged areas, especially Homs and the resumption of negotiations. We also asked the Chinese officials to play bigger role in resolving the Syrian crisis, as China is a permanent member in the UN Security Council and shall carry out its responsibilities in protecting the public peace. The delegation of the Syrian Coalition said that they touched some change in the Chinese attitudes that can be built upon. “We intend to build good relations with all countries in the context of supporting the Syrian people.”  (Source: Syrian Coalition)
