President of the Syrian Coalition Anas Alabdah on Wednesday met with the EU adviser for foreign affairs Lara Scarpitta to discuss the tragic situation in Aleppo and the EU role in stopping the bombardment, the forced displacement of Syrian civilians, lifting of the sieges, and supporting the projects and programs of the Syrian interim government.
The two sides discussed the initiative put forward earlier this week by the European Union to stop bombardment and deliver the humanitarian aid to Aleppo and all besieged areas across Syria.
Scarpitta also met with the Coalition’s Vice-President Abdul Hakim Bashar and Secretary of the Coalition’s political committee Riyad Hasan. The meeting discussed prospects of the political process in Syria and the challenges facing it.
The meetings with Scarpitta also discussed the EU role in encouraging dialogue among political, social, and religious forces in Syria.
Hasan stressed the importance of this dialogue “to preserve the Syrian social fabric and promote civil peace and coexistence as well as to prevent the use of societal diversity to further fuel the conflict.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
