Syrian Coalition Discusses Situation in Idlib with Representatives of Syria’s Friends

The Syrian Coalition met with a number of representatives of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People and thoroughly discussed with them the situation in Idlib and the urgent need for a solution to stop military operations targeting civilian areas in the province. The meetings also discussed ways to deliver humanitarian assistance to those in need, especially for more than 100,000 displaced people the majority of whom are staying out in the open without the basic necessities of life.

The meetings were part of the work of the Coalition’s Department of Foreign Relations and the special committee that the General Assembly has recently formed and tasked with taking urgent action on Idlib and working to avoid a possible humanitarian disaster in the province.

Vice-president of the Syrian Coalition, Dima Moussa, said that the Coalition met with the representatives of France, Great Britain and Germany. She pointed out that the meetings discussed ways to stop the regime’s ongoing onslaught against the Idlib and Hama countryside.

Moussa added that the rising civilian casualties and the relentless targeting of vital civilian centers as well as the ensuing mass displacement of civilians provided yet further evidence of the Assad regime and its allies’ widespread war crimes and violations against Syrian civilians.

Moussa pointed out that the Coalition will send a letter to several states and the international bodies concerned about the situation in Idlib. The letter will demand the exertion of pressure on Russia to force it to stop military operations in northwestern Syria and the stepping up of urgent humanitarian assistance for more than 100,000 people who have been displaced from their homes in recent weeks.

The special Idlib committee compiled a report detailing the violations being documented by human rights organizations, including the number of victims as well as the health and educational facilities targeted by the Assad regime and Russian forces.

The committee stressed the need to abide by the Memorandum of Understanding on Idlib that was reached last year; respect the ceasefire agreement; and stop all military operations in the region, especially the targeting of civilians and vital centers. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
