The Syrian Coalition’s political committee earlier today held a teleconference with the newly elected administration of Aleppo provincial council. The Coalition commended the move, describing it as a constructive step forward and an opportunity for Syrians to freely choose their representatives, a right that the Assad regime has denied them for over 50 years.
The Coalition hailed the democracy practiced by the council and the services it offers for civilians across Aleppo province despite the many challenges and the difficult circumstances it has been going through.
The Coalition stressed that victory is closer today than ever, adding that the endurance shown by the Syrian people and its resistance to injustice and tyranny will soon come to fruition and will bring about a political transition that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Last week saw the election of a new administration of the council under supervision of the interim Ministry of Local Administration. A provincial General Assembly of 354 members was elected while 41 members were elected as members of the provincial council.
Mohamed Fadila was elected head of the council, Abdul Salam Abdul Ghafour as his deputy and Abdul Razak Razzouk was elected as secretary-general of the council. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
