Hisham Marwa, Legal Committee member, lashed out at the insistence of Russia and the Assad regime on Iran’s participation in Geneva II, stressing that “it is an illusion that Iran’s participation may help resolve the crisis.” Marwa states that “inviting Iran to the conference will foil the international efforts aimed at making Geneva II a success, as its militias are still wreaking havoc, murder and destruction in Syria.” Marwa went on: “The introduction of any new file on the negotiating table at Geneva II not included in Geneva I Communique is an attempt to bring down the demands of the Syrian people and to dodge the goals of the revolution.” Marwa was referring statements by Russia and the Assad regime that fighting terror must top the discussion at Geneva II.” Marwa points out that “it is unreasonable to send invitations to all the world to participate at Geneva II when the Syrians choose to stay at home. This is an attempt to dilute the conference and a deviation from Geneva I Communique, which calls for the formation of a transitional ruling body without any role of Bashar al Assad to play.” When asked about the Assad regime’s transfer of weapons and missiles to Hezbollah’s terrorist militias, Marwa suggested that this a move by Iran and Assad to solidify their ally’s position in Lebanon, especially it comes after the arms deal signed by the Lebanese Army to strengthen its position in the country.” Marwa ruled out that the smuggled weapons would be used to fight the Israeli occupation. “The liberalization of the Golan Heights and Palestine is outside the political and military agenda of Assad and Hezbollah, who are in fact Iran’s tools to carry out its sectarian project in the region.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
