The Syrian Coalition mourned rebel commander Faisal al-Shami who was killed defending Darayya against the regime’s attacks on Thursday. Faisal al-Shami was a representative of the Damascus revolutionary movement in the Syrian Coalition.
The Syrian Coalition extended the most sincere condolences to the family of Shami. It said that “Shami might not be known to many people, but those who knew him are well aware of the sacrifices he made for the success of this revolution.”
Shami, who was a lecturer in Damascus University before the outbreak of the revolution, joined the peaceful revolution which later turned into an armed conflict. He then took up arms to defend the Syrian revolution and its principles, and showed unrivalled heroism commanding rebel forces in Darayya in the battle against the Assad regime and its allies.
“Shami sacrificed his life to defend Syrian civilians against the Assad regime’s brutal crackdown. The death of Shami and many other leaders before him will not discourage Syrians from continuing the revolution. Ideas espoused by millions of Syrians who are determined to achieve their aspirations for freedom, dignity and justice cannot be killed,” the Syrian Coalition added.
The Syrian Coalition renewed confidence in the Syrians’ ability to defeat tyranny and expel the invaders out of the homeland whatever it takes. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
