Khatib Badla, member of the political committee, expressed astonishment at the remarks made by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin who claimed that Syrian refugees are fleeing from ISIS rather than the Assad regime.
“Syrians began to flee Syria even before the emergence of ISIS, and nearly half the Syrian people are now internally displaced and living in refugee camps. They began to flee their homes after Assad declared war on them using all weapons at his disposal, from knives to chemical weapons and barrel bombs.”
“Russia shares responsibility for the refugee crisis as it has provided all kinds of support for the Assad regime since the beginning of the uprising.”
“We expected that Russia, as a major power, will not side with the tyrant who kills his people, but to have a balanced position and seeks to find a political solution to stop the killing and rid Syria of tyranny.”
“If Russia is serious in talking about contributing to a political solution to Syria, it should refrain from making such provocative statements and to stop all forms of military and political support for Assad.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
