Vice President Hisham Marwah said that Russia is ineligible to host negotiations between the Assad regime and the opposition aimed at finding a political solution to the conflict. “Any negotiations not based on the implementation of the Geneva declaration is ambiguous will be seen as an attempt to circumvent the legitimate demands of the Syrian people,” Marwa added.
“The Russians are Assad’s staunchest ally, and they have been propping him up using all military and political means, thus partnering with Assad in his crimes against the Syrian people,” he stressed.
He went on: “The Syrian Coalition, as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, will not engage in any new initiatives designed to undermine all international and UN resolutions and the Geneva I declaration. Moreover, Russia has sought through the so-called Moscow meeting to set the Syrian revolution back to square one. We reiterate we will not compromise the achievements of the revolution neither for the Russian so-called initiative or any other initiative not based on the Geneva I declaration.
