Nora Al-Ameer, vice president of the Syrian Coalition, said that “working on fighting terrorism in parallel with forming a transitional governing body, as was proposed by Lakhdar Brahimi, is not different in principle from Syrian Coalition’s demands that forming the transitional governing body is the primary key and the first term that must be applied to combat terrorism.” Al-Ameer also said that “terrorism that we seek to eliminate is the one that was created and nourished by Assad, who oversaw the creation of ISIS in their security branches and opened the door wide terrorist militias of Hezbollah and Abu al Fadl al Abbas’s sectarian militias.” Furthermore, Al-Ameer lashed out on statements made by regime’s Foreign Minister Walid Muallem who justified the crimes committed in Syria by the external militias as “self-defense through pre-emptive strikes against Syrian terrorists. Al-Ameer also criticizes remarks made by the regime’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad who said he “does not know the difference between the formation of a transitional government and a transitional governing body with full powers, preferring to use the term “government” instead of “body”. Al-Ameer said the difference between these two cases is quite clear; the formation of the transitional governing body is the goal of Geneva II negotiation based on the terms of Geneva I. A transitional governing body means that it is an independent body with full executive and legislative powers, while a transitional government, which the Assad’s regime seek to form, calls for changing the executive branch while preserving the legislative body. We do not accept it at all, because it is blatant manipulation of the terms of Geneva I, which were approved by the international community.”(Source: Syrian Coalition)
