The Syrian Negotiations Commission is preparing to hold a public session in the Arria formula at the United Nations on June 3 with the aim of stepping up international efforts and ratcheting up pressure on the Assad regime to release detainees and disclose the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared.
Participants will include members of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, representatives of civil society organizations, and members of the UN Security Council the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Qatar, Turkey, and Albania, which will chair the UN Security Council for the month of June.
The participants will seek to explore practical measures to ensure the release of detainees, especially women and children, and to know the fate of the missing.
The participants will also stress the impossibility of achieving sustainable peace in Syria without finding an urgent solution to the issue of detainees and missing persons. They will also call for immediate access to all detention centers of the Assad regime.
