A delegation from the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee for the Follow-up on the Affairs of the Syrian Refugees in Turkey met with the Directorate of Migration in Istanbul to discuss the latest requests submitted to the Committee within the framework of the implementation of the latest decisions to settle the legal status the Syrian nationals residing in Turkey.
Participants in the meeting, the second of its kind in September, included Coordinator of the Syrian National Coalition’s Office of Refugee Affairs, Amal Sheikhou, member of the Coalition Yusuf Mahilli, member of the Committee Ahmed Bakoura, and Istanbul Provincial Director of Migration Recep Batu. The two sides agreed to provide more facilitations to solve the problems facing Syrian nationals in Istanbul.
Sheikho pointed out that the Coalition submitted to the Directorate of Immigration the requests it received after it sorted them out and arranged them into categories. She said that the Office proposed solutions and ideas for improving and expediting the settlement of the status of Syrian nationals in Istanbul.
For his part, Batu said that unregistered Syrian nationals must apply for the Temporary Protection ID Card before October 30th, adding that the next step will involve the reunification of households that the majority of their members are registered in Istanbul.
Regarding the facilitations the Directorate are providing to the Syrian nationals, Batu pointed out that they opened a new center in Esenler district and a mobile one in Esenyurt district whose task will be the provision of facilitations to unregistered Syrians and the issuance of travel permits.
Batu pointed out that Syrian nationals can now obtain travel permits from new centers at the entrance of Sabiha and Istanbul airports by producing the plane ticket and the Temporary Protection ID Card provided that the destination is to the same province in which the traveler was registered.
