Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Hakim Bashar, recently took part in a research symposium focused on the Syrian Kurds and their available options. The symposium, held in the city of Erbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, saw the participation of various intellectuals, research centers, and representatives from Kurdish political parties.
During his address, Bashar emphasized the crucial need to strengthen ties with the Syrian revolution and opposition forces, particularly the SOC. He highlighted the importance of a clear political vision that respects the rights of all ethnicities and religions. Additionally, he urged concerted efforts to implement UN resolutions on Syria, aiming for a comprehensive political solution that ensures political pluralism in the country and concludes the era of tyranny.
Bashar underscored the SOC’s commitment to addressing violations and facilitating the return of displaced people and refugees to their original lands and homes. He recounted the challenges faced by Kurds in Syria under the Assad regime and emphasized the regime’s persistent rejection of any resolution to the Kurdish issue.
Bashar stated that the strategic choice for the Kurds is to align with the Syrian revolution and the SOC. He urged deepening relationships with revolutionary and civil institutions, fostering transparent dialogue on issues that may affect these connections.
Moreover, Bashar emphasized the significance of establishing trust with the Syrian people of all backgrounds and sects. He advocated for building a strategic partnership that safeguards the rights of all Syrian components, contributing to the realization of democratic transformation in the country.
