Dr. Fawaz Al-Awwad, Deputy Minister of Education in the interim government, said that the Ministry adopted a revised curriculum to be taught in Syrian education centers in Turkey based on a circular issued by the Ministry of National Education in Turkey on September, 9th, 2014 concerning the education services provided for foreign students. The Ministry also said that it had abolished the Libyan curriculum which was taught in Syrian schools. “We have formed several committees composed of educational experts and academics known for their competence and experience to revise the Syrian curriculum in line with the academic and educational standards and with the principles of the Syrian revolution. More than one million textbooks were printed and distributed to Syrian students, and the second batch of textbooks are being printed.” As for students of the previous two years who have studied the Libyan curriculum, Awad said that “there is not any retroactive effect of this decision, as all the certificates already issued based on the Libyan curriculum are considered official and recognized in accordance with the government decision on this regard. After Turkey recognized the preparatory and secondary school certificates issued by the interim government,France followed suit recognized and also granted scholarships to ten Syrian students to study in France. Moreover, we continue to have discussions with the European Union to get recognition of the certificates issued by the Syrian interim government. A committee of European experts issued a report praising the school examination conducted last year in Syrian schools in accordance with the international standards, which will further increase the chance of recognition of the certificates.” Awad also said that the interim Ministry of Education will have a joint supervisory role with the Turkish government on the Syrian education centers in Turkey in terms of the quality of education and the functioning of the educational process.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
