The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented that 1,541 mosques at least were damaged in Syria as a result of the deliberate and indiscriminate shelling by forces of the Assad regime. The Network said that regime forces continued to target mosques, especially in Aleppo which has come under brutal aerial campaign. “It turned out that the regime’s shelling does not serve any military goals, but is intended as a punishment of the civilian population,” the director of the Network said.
