The French Ministry of Finance and Economy organized an international workshop dedicated to discuss energy issues in Syria in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the Syrian interim government. The workshop began on June in Paris and was attended by representatives from developed countries in the field of energy, most notably France, Germany, Britain, Japan and South Korea, and a number of organizations and institutions. The participants discussed rehabilitation of the electricity sector in Syria and the provision of energy sources to the affected areas. They also discussed the institutionalization of the Ministry of Energy and to conduct its business with efficiency through its offices in all Syrian provinces. The Syrian side was represented by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Elias Warda and director of the Electricity Sector Hikimat Hissou, in addition to the project manager in the sector of renewable energies Abdul Rahman Abu Jawad. The Syrian side highlighted the most important projects of the Ministry in the oil and gas sectors, electricity and renewable energies” The workshop was concluded by adopting a number of recommendations centered on rethinking the mechanism of the work of the trust fund for the reconstruction of Syria in terms and accelerating the implementation of the projects financed by it, which will be implemented by the Ministry of Energy. The conferees also agreed to organize similar workshops at the beginning of next fall in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
