The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held a virtual consultative meeting with national, political and civil figures from Deir Ezzor province as part of preparations for a series of meetings regarding the eastern region.
The meeting brought together SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri, Vice-president Oqab Yahya, Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Secretary of the political committee Riyad Al-Hassan, members of the political committee Salem Al-Meslet and Bahjat Atassi, and members of the General Assembly Ahmed Tomeh, Muhammad Qaddah, and Amer Al-Bashir.
This meeting is one of three meetings that the SOC is working on to organize an inclusive conference for the eastern region with its three provinces of Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, and Hasaka in order to form a body that represents the people of the eastern region and their demands.
Participants stressed the importance of the eastern region at the national level as they stressed the need for the people of the region to represent themselves, express their demands; and manage their regions by themselves.
They also stressed that addressing the issues in the northeastern region must be done from a comprehensive national perspective, underscoring that this region is an integral part of Syria. They also reaffirmed their rejection of projects of federalization or partitioning of the region.
Members of the Al-Jazirah and Euphrates Committee talked about the Committee’s work to solve the problems of the region, expose the PYD’s crimes and violations; and resist its dangerous project that threatens the unity of Syria and its people.
Participants pointed out that the area is being used by supporting terrorist militias seeking to hijack the will of the people of the region and change their Syrian identity.
They put forward various ideas to work on in the months to come that would preserve the integrity of the Syrian territory and the rights of all components and people of the region as well as ensure the return of the displaced people to their regions. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
